Post-final Dumps?
...I can't imagine what else it'd be. I'm oddly depressed for no real reason. I uploaded a colored version of an old piccie on the sketchblog (see right for link), and am contemplating putting that on the site now, but I don't really feel like it. For one thing there's another pic that needs to be rescanned cuz the first scan sucked...
I'm feeling so lazy. And blah. Maybe I should just take it out on my original characters and make them suffer for a long time. Yeah. That might make me feel better....

Ugh. Omelets are really good but they always give me slight tummy aches afterwards, I think it's cuz I make them too big and wind up overeating. But despite that minor annoyance, I'm feeling pretty liberated, since MY PHYSICS FINALS ARE DONE!!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! NO MORE FINALS TIL NEXT SEMESTER!
*ahem* Right. I'd be happier except mom just called to tell me how there's yet another conflict so she can't come to pick me up yet AGAIN. It wasn't a big deal last time, but this time it's for winter break so I have a bunch of crap to bring home. Just the thought of lugging all that down to 36th Street and then onto the trolley and then on to the line for the train tickets and then on to the stupid train and then off the stupid train...pisses me off. Like, majorly. I'd probably be better off not thinking about it cuz it's spoiling my evening something terrible.
It's not like they can help it, but it still pisses me off. You can know something's not someone's fault and still not like it. *shrug* I don't pretend to be a saint.
ANYWAY, onto something else... *thinks* Er...oh, maybe I should explain where the title of my blog comes from cuz like, some silly people are definitely getting the wrong idea. It honestly didn't occur to me that people would get the wrong idea until someone did, and then I was like, "Hm. Maybe it'd be a good idea to dispell some misconceptions..." So yeah, "Gates of Horn" is an allusion to Greek mythology, and more specifically to the idea that there are two gates from whence dreams come. One is made of ivory, and the other is made of horn; illusionary, false dreams come from the ivory gate, and true, prophetic dreams come from the horn gate. There's nothing prophetic going on here, but it's my life and it's real, so I decided to give it that name. Plus I thought (and still think) that it sounded cool.^^
And that's all for today, I think. Now to break out the milk tea from the fridge and draw piccies! Yes! Pencils and paper, here I come!!!

And speaking of songs...after the horrifying experience with the GetBackers first OP translations, I've decided that it would be most wise to take all fansubs with a grain of salt. Make that a whole tablespoon. Ok, for ONE line in the freakin' song, I've seen about 3 different translations: one group talked about watching lovers on a train (ending with "honki dashi sa"), another group talked about big seesaws (ending with "ookina SEESAW"), another group talked about walking through illusions (ending with "honki de shissou")... I mean it's like, "Who do I believe???"
The only line they're all able to agree on is, "Tada kimi ni aitai," because...well, there's no other way to translate that besides, "I just want to see you." But honestly, sometimes I just sit there and laugh all the way through the OP.
Loki's OP has a similar problem, except different (yeah, I know, I'm clever). Here it's not a matter of agreement, it's a matter of, "Why the hell don't you people READ the stuff you translate and see if it makes sense??" So the first few lines go something like, "Shiroi mikazuki machi o miorosu koro ni, aoi meikyuu kara mashou ga mezamehajimeru," which translates (from what I gather) to be something like, "Around the time that a white crescent moon looks down upon the city, devilishness awakens from a pale labyrinth."
The translation I saw goes, "The white crescent moon. By the time looking down on the city. Blue eyes, from 9, the witch has awakened."
I'm sorry, but does that make sense?? I mean, DOES IT??? I can understand the blue part, cuz "aoi" apparently means "blue" or "pale" depending on the context, and the witch/devilishness thing makes sense too, since witch=majo and devilishness=mashou, so in a song they can be mistaken for each other. But the part that REALLY made me laugh was that they apparently didn't realize that "meikyuu" meant "maze, labyrinth" and separated it into "me" (eye) and "kyuu" (nine). So now it's, "Aoi me, kyuu kara, majo ga mezamehajimeta." (As aforesaid, "Blue eyes, from 9, the witch has awakened." And I swear I'm quoting directly from the subs.)
This really doesn't help when I'm trying to learn the darned language and I can't even be sure if the translations I'm reading are correct. Sheesh.-_-
...whew. That was a long rant.0_o; I got carried away.^^; Too torn between amusement and chagrin to stop myself.^^;; Ok, NOW I'll break out the milk tea and draw. And my hands still smell like onions even after washing them at least 5 times. Dammit.
Oh, sorry, one last thing which must be said: Death to art thieves. If you are an art thief, you deserve to burn in the lowest pits of hell after being smacked nth times by smelly dead fish. (NOW milk tea. Now. I mean it.)

The Witchspring Sketchblog is where Majo-chan and I will post our art (they are by no means of equal quality. Hers are better), in various stages of completion.^^; We spent forever agonizing over whether to use LJs or another blog like this one, but finally decided on LJs cuz...I dunno. Majo, did we have a reason?^^; I think it's just cuz LJ got rid of their invite codes and...you get to do the cool cut thing on LJs. Or something funky like that.^^;
But yeah, artage! Go take a gander! And post comments! Non-LJ-users can post!^_^; And just in case you're interested, I think DA will be for, like, "better" art from me, whereas the sketchblog will be more... unfiltered? Kinda like, whatever I draw will go up regardless of how sucky it is.^^;

Gorgeous out. Absolutely gorgeous. These huge flakes of snow being blown up by the wind and covering everything in a blanket of white...I love it! X-D <--that's a weird face, you can use it to express so many different emotions.... Anyway. Snow all day! Keep snowing! Go go! *notices as she speaks that snow seems to be slowing...* Noooo! ...in a completely schizo manner, I will switch topics (ok, in truth I'm not acting schizo, I'm acting as if I have a multiple-personality disorder but let's not get too technical). Saddam Hussein is captured??0_o *pause* I don't know what to think. My roommate went to check the weather online and, of course, saw that glaring at her on the front page of yahoo (or something). Then we verified it on the NY Times, and it looks like it's for real.
Good thing she decided to check the weather, otherwise both she and I would've been completely clueless, since of course we weren't planning to do anything but study today.@_@
But yeah...captured. Wow. Man, I hope this ends something (i.e., the war). It needs to end. I would go on to cynically point out that of course the press'd show a photo of happy Iraqis in the street, to make ourselves feel better about the whole mess, but I suspect not too many people want to hear that from me. *shrug* So I'll wait and see what effect this will have before cheering. The best thing that could happen is that the fighting will stop.
