"Believe in Heaven" translated???
DI!!!!! I need your help!! Tell me if I translated this correctly, kay?^___^ Tis the ED to Matantei Loki Ragnarok, and I love the song to death so today I tried to figure out what it was saying.^^;; Hehehehehe.... Ok, here goes. Er, Romanized Japanese first, then translation. Yeah, duh. Stuff in brackets is added to smooth out the translation, and this is not word-for-word....cuz that makes a bad translation.^^;
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fukai kiri o saite
Tsuki akari ga terashita michi
Tearing apart the deep mist,
[There is] a street illuminated by moonlight
Daremo minna mayoi nagara, samayotteru ashita e to
Everyone is lost, wandering toward tomorrow
Kodoku no machi de, kataritsugu shinwa sae habamare souna
Yami o nukete yuku
In the city of loneliness*, even myths, passed down through time, are obstructed.
Escape from this darkness
Hatenai sora o koete, tabi o shiteiru
Kizutsuite mo
[We'll] go beyond the endless sky and keep on traveling,
Even if we get hurt
Boku-tachi wa kitto tadori tsukeru kara,
Inori tsuzuketai, Believe in Heaven
Because we know we'll continue journeying**,
We want to keep praying. Believe in heaven.
Kanashimi ga uzumaku hibi, tenshi sae mo namida suru
On days when grief is a maelstrom***, even angels shed tears
Kioku no umi de nemutteita kanjou
Yobisamasereba, kami no koe ga suru
If we can awaken the feeling which slept in the sea of memory,
We serve as god's voice
(Repeat) Haruka na umi no kanata oyogitsuzukeru
Kotae motome
We keep swimming toward the far edge**** of the sea,
In search of an answer
Ano hi kara, itsumo mune ni hikatteru chikai wasurenai
Believe in Heaven
We won't forget the oath which has shone in our hearts from that day on,
Believe in heaven
Yoru no fuchi made tochiteyuku hoshikuzu mo
Kotae mitsukete, kagayaku darou
When we find that answer, the falling stardust on night's edge
Might shine too.
Hatenai sora o koete, tabi o shiteiru
Kizutsuite mo
[We'll] go beyond the endless sky and keep on traveling,
Even if we get hurt
Boku-tachi wa kitto tadoritsukeru kara, negai tsuzuketai
Because we know we'll continue journeying,
We want to keep wishing.
(Repeat)
* I'm not sure if I should translate "kodoku no machi" as "the lonely city" or "the city of loneliness." Dochira no hou ga ii da to omou?
** "Kitto" is "definitely," but I thought "we will definitely keep journeying" sounds kinda weird, so I tried to convey that same sentiment using "we know."
*** "Uzumaku" will probably sound familiar to any and all Naruto fans^^, since our titular character's name is Uzumaki Naruto. Hehe. Anyway, the word means "to swirl/whirl/etc." and the connotation seems to be when describing something violent, like a whirlpool. I thought "when grief is swirling" sounded really dumb, so I tried to use connotation instead...does that convey the song's meaning or am I totally off?
**** "Haruka na umi no kanata": I'm assuming the "haruka na" is describing "umi no kanata" and not "umi" itself.^^; I mean, you can's swim to the other side of the sea if the sea is far away, right? And "kanata" is "the other side," according to the dictionary, but "the far other side of the sea" somehow doesn't do it for me.
WHEW! That was FUN! Now I wonder if I can try that with "Asu e no Brilliant Road," except that song has A LOT more vocab I totally don't know.@_@ Maybe during spring break.
Di, how'd I do??? Was it totally off?? Tell me!!!
Everyone's got a journal
Marya's got a livejournal everyone! Commence celebration, or something.
Too tired to make a coherent journal entry, but let me just say the only all-nighter I pulled was on Monday night-Tuesday morning, to finish my scientific paper for animal behavior. After that I went to bed at my normal bedtime, which is 2:30 AM. Hey, that's early for a college student.
I am, however, deeply moved by the concern from all, so I will risk failing my history exam tomorrow to address a few....er, points which have been brought up.
Firstly, to Majo: Sleep IS evil! Evil evil evil! Case in point: if I did not need sleep I would be caught up in genetics and at no risk of failing the history exam tomorrow, because I would've reviewed everything 10x over. Not to mention I would've been able to draw and write. Heck, if I did not need sleep, I might be a master artist by now!
But, alas, I concede to the dangers of sleep deprivation. It's why I sleep at all.
To Marya: I still hold that the best lesson to be learned from your cautionary tale is to stay away from those animal crackers. They were always a bit iffy to me.
To Di: YOU'RE ALIVE!!! Great to hear from you! I've been keeping up with your journal, just didn't get to comment. You will just have to take me at my word. Don't worry about my fruit intake: I've been eating so much fruit I think I'm turning into a monkey. A fruit-eating monkey. Or maybe I am a fruitfly.
As for the chamomile tea though, I'm afraid I'll have to pass. Chamomile tea, you see, has no caffeine. In fact, its very nerve-soothing properties might make me fall asleep on my notes. Then I might drool all over them. Then my notes might be ruined. Then I might fail an exam. Then I might have to write another short entry consisting of a loud roar, except I might add censored expletives in there.
To Judy: Leaving the cup noodle aside for now, I'd like to point out someone who ate 3 packs of Easy Mac in rapid succession after I introduced this "food" to the family. I, on the other hand, have been eating the unhealthy food called "rice." And "fruit." And "bread." And "eggs." I am also participating in the very unhealthy activity of martial arts. Along with 30 minute sessions on a cardio machine downstairs.
Yes, I am being sarcastic.
To Marya again: ...I'd say "yay" sarcastically, does that count?
To Mingi: OMG, it's MINGI!! Welcome aboard! Yes, learning part fun, testing part not so fun. In fact, I should REALLY go back to the not-so-fun or else I will fail the exam tomorrow.@_@ And that was my 21st entry? *scatches head* Well then, I never knew. Thanks for counting...? And in a non-sequitur fashion: who's that guy on the bg of your xanga?
.......
You guys do realize you've given further support to the hypothesis that the shorter and less introspective the entry, the more comments it will get? Next time maybe I'll write an entry that says, "Dur" and watch the comments fly in. It's on its way to becoming a law of nature. Maybe it'll be a corollary to Murphy.
.......
Now I'll be a little more serious (because I'm a little more awake) and say that you guys are great. I was so entertained by everyone's advice, which means that they worked as stress-relief. :) Even without reading the sigs I knew exactly who made what comment. You're all very distinctive.
Ah heck. Gonna quit beating around the bush. What I'm trying to say is that I'm lucky to have you guys as friends (and in one case, family. Nagging family). *shrivels up from the mushy cheesiness*
**edit** Oh yeah, roommate said that Power Bars give a lot of energy, so I went and bought one (and ate it, though that should go w/o saying). Now I'm like, more wired than a parallel circuit. WHOOT! Roman history, HERE I COME! PREPARE TO GET CREAMED!**end edit**
Mayonaka
Literally, "in the middle of the night," or "dead of night," which is exactly what it is now. Did you know that was one of the first Japanese words I ever learned? It's all due to Sailor Star Healer's image song, "Mayonaka Hitori" (Alone at Midnight).^_^; Unhealthy obsession with Sailor Moon (Sailor Stars and the ever lovely Starlights in particular) during 7th grade did have its uses. In fact I think I can thank the Starlights for starting me on both art and writing. (Improvement of said art and writing though, goes to obsession with Yami Wa Tsudou and a certain red-eyed, elf-eared, slightly sadistic arbitrator of souls.)
Just gorged on a carton of strawberries, now trying desperately to catch up on history reading (poor Cicero!), worrying about the coherence of my animal behavior paper, drinking tea, writing a line or two in that immortals AU, eyeing the pic I inked today in preparation for mutilation by newly-acquired prismacolor pencils (ok, not so newly acquired since I got them over winter break)....
In other words, multi-tasking.^^; And I think long, introspective entries like the one below scare people away because I never get any comments for them. I guess no one really knows what to say in response.^^; Feel free to disagree and call me a dunce, you know. I'm pretty sure I need a few smacks on the head once in a while.
And a totally random note: current favorite songs are a toss-up between FMA's 2nd ED, "Tobira no Mukou e" and Uchuu no Stellvia's OP, "Asu e no Brilliant Road." I'd love "Ready Steady Go" too, except the credits toe the cheesy line a little too often for my liking. Especially that stupid flower which blooms behind Ed's head like his hair (or maybe his brains) made excellent fertilizer. If it's some attempt at poetic symbolism, it has fallen flat on its face and was then trampled by several horny male elepants. All it does is make me think, "Hm, maybe the reason Ed's a super hyper chibi (his own words, not mine) is cuz he's got plants in his head and they stunt growth." What the hell were the animators on?? It doesn't help that in that sequence he's got the funkiest expression ever. And while I'm on this topic, I might as well mention poor Colonel Roy Mustang, who only needs to snap his fingers for flame to appear, but is instead forced to wave his arms in some tasteless imitation of an epileptic fit before that simple gesture. All in time to the music. *shakes head* "Melissa"'s credits were much better.^_^
...ok, in all fairness, the end of "Ready Steady Go"'s sequence (with Ed reaching for the light) was very classy, cool, and almost makes me forget the silliness of the above two shots.^^;
Gah, listening to "Asu e no Brilliant Road" (I think this translates to "The Brilliant Road toward Morning," but gee, I'm not too sure about the "brilliant road" part...) and getting attacked by random OP sequences for the immortals.@_@ NOOOO......so distracting.... And Sentinel, stop looking cute and evil and cool at the same time! My brain will explode!
