Amidst the DDR music...

I present you all with random entry 114+ (my blog insists that this is my 114th entry, but it was my 114th entry last week, so I'm disinclined to believe it).

Felt RICH today, cuz we went to the mall and there was this Tommy Hilfiger jean jacket that was on sale...and it had been like 90 bucks before but I got it for something less than 30 bucks. Behold, my only namebrand piece of clothing! Then we went to Victoria's Secret because my sister needed a strapless bra and I got myself 5 pairs of fancy festive underwear for 20 bucks. Red and sparkly and everything. Really cool.XD (Isn't it sad that I'm excited over underwear?)

Then we went to Costco, and dad went totally bonkers and got a new TV. I guess I'm not really complaining because our old TV (that piece of cr*p) was really messed up. And now we've got something that displays normally, whee! I'm sure my sibs will be happy, even if I personally won't be at home to enjoy it. I also got my VERY OWN PEACOAT! It's black and a nice length (I don't like the short ones) and I feel all fancy wearing it. Plus I feel like I got a nice bargain since all the stuff at the mall was like, 200-500 bucks, and we were all like, "0____o" and dropped them like hot potatoes. (Whoot, lots of 'like's in that sentence.)

Also got chai with newly acquired Starbucks card, would like to thank the person who gave it to me, but alas, she is no where to be found, so I'll just hope she reads this: "Thanks for the happy Starbucks card!" I'd just like to announce here that if I find out next week that this disappearance has something to do with me again, I might throw a very angry hissy fit. Just giving a friendly warning, though as of now it doesn't seem like that's the case.

Yeah, that's it. Wrote a lot, didn't draw, and did some homework, though not as much as I'd like. Oh well.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Ugh. We ate so much. But fortunately I didn't get a huge stomach ache like I did on Wednesday night.^^;

We also saw The Incredibles today. OMG, SUCH a good movie. Everyone should go watch it! XD Pixar outdid themselves again! I wanted to yammer about the stuff I liked but it'd be full of spoilers, and actually I'm not really in the mood to type a whole lot of stuff tonight. It's more like a little heads-up in case anyone actually cared about how I spent my Thanksgiving.

And, since it's Thanksgiving and all... I want to thank my family, my cat, and my friends, for putting up with me in their own ways. I would say more, but it'd probably edge into the realm of mushiness and I am not feeling very mushy right now.^^;

So proud of (some of) our law enforcement

Uh huh. Cuz it's fun to beat up peaceful protesters.

Then you read the comments to this article, like that guy who wants to go "beat up lefties"? Wow.

Here's where I insert something inspirational to the effect of how these protesters can't give up and should just keep on protesting, but I am kind of dead right now and I can't come up with anything good. I'm just irritated and angry that people like the asshole just cited above don't seem to have any respect for those protesters, who are merely standing up for what they believe in.

But hey, what else is new? At least someone else gave him/her what-for, and rather calmly, considering.

Back to hammering out the conclusion to the art history paper. May add an edit later, may not. *insert big blah face, but isn't really feeling blah, just blank*

Dude, where's my sleep?

The paper is really done, but I hate the conclusion and I keep staring at it like it'll fix itself somehow. I mean, look, here it is:

"The Bayeux Tapestry and Westminster Abbey under Henry III have around two centuries between their creation. Despite the years of separation and a vast disparity in media, an analysis bringing the two under one critical view reveals that these differences do not preclude the similar effects of royal patronage. Henry III and Odo of Bayeux employed ideas and techniques which remain recognizable despite the dissimilarity between a church and a large strip of embroidery, thus demonstrating the time-spanning power of said techniques."

Say what? Everyone asks. Good question. I have no idea. I mean, that's the end? It doesn't even sound like a freakin' ending. And it's just plunked in there like a conclusion should never be.

Since this is an art history paper, I should really have some illustrations at the end. But I'm not even going to refer to any of those illustrations, so why should I bother? The guidelines say "encouraged to put illustrations," not "major points will be deducted if you do not insert random illustrations for my viewing pleasure," so...am tempted not to. But there's that image of Edward the Confessor grinning like an idiot on the Bayeux Tapestry which I should really stick in, because after all I yammered for a page about its significance.

...and all this is just the rambling of a sleep-deprived (again!) geek, so feel free to skip it and go read more interesting material.

*fizzle snap hissssssss POP*

Whooo...burn out. Had to skip work, came home at 1:30 and slept til 6ish, skipping cell bio recitation too (not that we ever really do anything important in there, so it's ok). Now I'm tweaking my paper and dreading the grueling task of footnoting the citations. But at least I feel less like hibernating for 3 months. :p

Thanksgiving is coming not a moment too soon. Boy am I ever grateful.

And I think a sure sign of my general burned-outness is that eating my own stuff has become a chore. I know I have leftover fried rice in the fridge that is quite decent, but all I want to do is buy food. Plus I opted out on lunch and chose sleep instead. You KNOW there's something off right there.

Fortunately, today's Japanese test was a breeze. AND I actually stayed awake for the entire thing (leaving 20 minutes early sure was swell), which was more than what I could say for orgo and cell bio lecture. :p

I am just such a mess right now.0_o Maybe I'll sound less messed up in Chinese:

我只能問自己,到底在搞什麽鬼啊?整天昏昏沉沉的,一點都不像我。真希望感恩節能趕快到。

...今天好像很多字打錯了。希望是空想,不然我的中文程度也未免太~爛了吧。

Nope, still complaining about myself.^^; Oh well. I think I'll go call Yu Kee (that's the food cart) and order their yummy chicken, eggplant, and tofu dish, which is what I always order. It's kind of embarrassing, I'll bet she knows who I am. And to date I can't work up the courage to order in Chinese, cuz 雞肉,茄子,和豆腐配飯sounds wrong to me. Chinese dishes just aren't called that.^^;

And then it's back to paper! ...ah ha, NOW I'm hungry.^_^

**EDIT** This saddened me so I'm posting. AIDS. Still think it's a gay white man's disease, assholes?

But on the other hand, here's a marvelously inspiring post from a really awesome artist about her church. See, acceptance! Tolerance! In a Christian environment! It CAN be done! Go Christians! Take back your religion from the hateful! **END EDIT**

Pre-paper cranking rambles

Blogger

I tried typing in a bigger font today. did it work? I'll probably come back later, in the midst of my frustrated paper-writing, with a big long edit. This blog's friggin' on FIRE, man. Maybe I'll even type in Japanese. There's a test tomorrow after all, so I might as well practice my grammar points. Heh heh heh.

Right. I guess I should translate what I wrote up there, but believe me, non-Chinese readers, you're not missing a thing. I am the most boring person in Chinese, eva. "I've decided to write a bit of Chinese every day. This way I should improve faster. It's harder to type in Chinese than it is in Japanese, but I'm not really confident with Japanese grammar. There's too many things to look up. Oh yeah, if you find that I've got a character wrong, please tell me somehow.^_^"

See how boring that is? Just stick with my English stuff, at least I rant and/or act weird there.^_~

**EDIT その一**

So like, EVERYONE has seen The Incredibles!!! Besides ME!! What's up with that?! I want to see this durned movie too! All the artsy peoples loved it, like Jen Wang (no, not a friend) and Clio Chiang (no, not a friend) and my sister (no, not a...I mean...Yeah! Friend!) and various others, and they typically have wonderful taste (though I will respectfully disagree with how good everyone thought Hero was), so I am eagerly anticipating the spending of 8 bucks to sit in a huge dark room with pretty pictures flashing in front of me. And hopefully no squirming loud childen. Squirming loud children annoy me when they are in huge dark room with pretty flashing pictures.

I want to see this movie!!! I also want a new watch cuz mine broke. And a new pencil case cuz mine is breaking.

I am so hyper, it's beginning to scare me. What the heck is in this milk tea?

**EDIT 終わり**

YES!

Check. It. Out! No more annoying funky characters in place of my Chinese or Japanese (as long as you have auto-select enabled in your browser).^_______^

Blogger is again back in my good graces. I should've searched the faq when this problem first came up so I wouldn't have had to angst over switching to LJ.

Heh heh heh heh...*ahem* Ok, back to the paper. Goal is to write 5 badly connected pages before bed. "Bed" will hopefully be around 3, but if I keep procrastinating like I am now, well...we'll see.^^;

*giggle* Yay, visibility of Chinese characters!

More Chinese practice

Ok, apparently BIG5 doesn't work, only Unicode does. Whatever.0_o

Yeah, this is exhausting. But good practice. I'm not sure I chose the correct characters, but this sure as heck beats memorizing how to write them!^_^

I'm trying to figure out if I should switch to LJ or just stay here. I like this background, but I don't get why Auto select doesn't pick up on the Chinese or the Japanese. Is it because there's too much English? *scratches head* Ok. Me go shower now.

Bowing out on the Argentine tango

I feel bad because I think we're learning new steps today, but I should really start cranking out stuff for my paper. I also need to go to the library eventually and get a copy of the MLA handbook so I can figure out how to do my endnotes. Maybe I should go now...but I just got back.@_@

While I was on my way to dance class this random Indian guy just popped up out of nowhere and started talking to me. Like he just started to ask me if I was Japanese (??) and then what my major was. Then when I rather reluctantly answered, he started going on how there were a lot of Asian people on campus, and whether I lived in a hostel (??). I think maybe I misheard, because he had a heavy accent and I was sort of like, "Why are you talking to me?" the whole time. Finally at the very end before I had to go one way and he had to go another, he asked me, "Do you like friendship?" (My reaction was suitably confused. I thought I misheard again, but no, that was what he said.)

Dude, was he trying to hit on me?

.......

Nah. What is there to hit on?0_o All in all it was very creepy, and not at all a pleasant experience. I didn't tell him where I lived or what my last name was, so if he's some weird sicko I think I'll be ok.

Over and out.

Good to be bilingual

There's gotta be a better way to type than this.@_@ I guess I'm too lazy. :p View using Big5, I guess. This is really really good practice though, and it's only when I start writing that I realize that I have the vocabulary of a friggin' 5 year old in my native language. The shame, the shame!

And after nearly an hour of effort, all I managed to say was, "My name is Lucy Ho (not really). Today is my first time trying to write in Chinese. Man, what the hell am I saying? Forget it, I'm giving up. This way of writing is too inefficient. It took this much time to write just a few sentences."

Aren't I pessimistic?^^;

**EDIT** And now, Japanese practice!

That creatively says, "My name is Lucy Ho. Right now I'm a junior at Penn, majoring in biology. Today is my first time typing in Japanese. It's hard to do, so I feel troubled. But I can't give up."

Wow, I sound so dumb in other languages.0_o **END EDIT**
